The Saitama
Project
The raw compost produced
in the Bedminster Digester is utilized as an
alternative raw material and fuel for the
cement manufacturing process at the Saitama
Plant.
The raw compost is fed
into an adjacent cement kiln after sieving
and storage. Actual operation at the Saitama
Plant, Saitama, Japan commenced in April
2001, by using municipal waste (garbage and
burnable materials such as plastics and
paper) generated from Hidaka City, Saitama.
The plant has a capacity to treat 15,000 tons
per year of such waste and the Bedminster
operation has been very successful.
